Forked by a group of developers (led by Greg Allan and Harry Zink) in 2001
Purpose: PostNuke emerged as a fork of PHP-Nuke due to dissatisfaction with PHP-Nuke’s development process and quality issues. The PostNuke team aimed to create a more stable, secure, and flexible CMS.
Key Features:
- Improved security compared to PHP-Nuke.
- Enhanced modularity for greater flexibility.
- API-driven approach for better extensibility.
- Themes and templating systems for design customization.
- A strong emphasis on community-driven development.
Key Milestones:
- The 0.7x series introduced major architectural improvements.
- PostNuke transitioned to the Zikula Application Framework in 2008. Zikula represented a major rewrite and rebranding, bringing PostNuke into a modern web development paradigm.
Decline:
Despite its initial success, PostNuke faced competition from more user-friendly and modern CMS platforms. The transition to Zikula further narrowed its user base due to the complexity of migration and the steep learning curve.
